Stockholm – His Excellency Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took part in a panel discussion during the Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development, under the title “The Changing Geopolitical Landscape and the Future of Mediation: Perspectives from the Nordic Countries and the Gulf States.”
The session, organized under the auspices of the Folke Bernadotte Academy of Sweden, addressed the profound transformations in the international peace and security landscape under the current multipolar global order, with the emergence of new actors in mediation such as India, China, the Gulf States, and Turkey, alongside traditional powers and international organizations. It also examined the growing trend toward fragmented ceasefire arrangements instead of comprehensive peace agreements, and the need to reassess the role and tools of mediation.
The discussion further highlighted opportunities for cooperation between the Nordic countries and the Gulf States in exchanging expertise and strengthening adaptability to geopolitical shifts, thereby contributing to more effective peace efforts.
In his intervention, H.E. Dr. Al Ansari underscored the pivotal role of the State of Qatar as a trusted mediator in conflict resolution and crisis management, reviewing the achievements of Qatari diplomacy in settling several complex files and its recognized contributions to promoting regional and international security and stability. He emphasized that the success of Qatari mediation is based on key factors, including strategic engagement, tactical neutrality, long-term investment, commitment, and partnership.
On the sidelines of the Forum, H.E. Dr. Al Ansari held a number of meetings with senior Swedish officials, during which they discussed ways to develop cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Sweden and to strengthen partnership on issues of mutual interest, including supporting international efforts to achieve peace and sustainable development.
